For sketch model 4, I decided to incorporate some of the elements of chunkiness as well as some delicate elements from the folding model. I came up with this idea of making a head and a tail for this one. The tail is formed by vertically aligned 2-D pieces, while the head is made of horizontally aligned pieces.
I really want to show the transition from something rather chunky into something much more fluid and much more delicate. This transition speaks of motion and how a lot of things go through a certain transitory period.
One of the things I incorporated with this model was the slotting method, which was relatively novel, just like the folding method had been. I wanted to generate these shapes as a way of continuing the motion that was implied through the stacked 3-D form. The separation of the pieces was in order to talk about the way the model was formed out of multiple instances of a single original form.
The tail exerts a certain forward motion that the chunky stacking technique doesn't really capture on its own. There is a distinct wind almost, as if the whole model is moving through the air and swaying as it battles the air.
One of the pieces that I added as a tail was another horizontal piece, to really capture the chaos as the model moves through space, and also to make it clear that there really is a lack of distinct orientation towards the tail of the model.
Almost on to the final one!
